Héma-Québec acts as a supplier of human tissues intended for transplants and manages a bank of human tissues for Quebec.

As a supplier of human tissues, Héma-Québec is responsible for:

Awareness raising

Héma-Québec is responsible for raising the awareness of the public and the various stakeholders in the hospitals with respect to the importance of identifying potential donors. When a potential donor is identified, the stakeholders refer this individual to Héma-Québec which takes charge of the procedure for retrieving human tissues, including corneas.

Retrieval

Héma-Québec is responsible for retrieving various tissues, while respecting the deceased individual and his/her loved ones, and preparing them for transplant. Héma-Québec retrieves the following human tissues:

  • Muscular-skeletal tissues (tendons, bone chips, femoral heads)
  • Cutaneous tissues
  • Heart valves
  • Corneas (in partnership with Banque d’Yeux du Québec)
Distribution
Héma-Québec responds to the needs of medical teams and patients by distributing safe products to various hospitals.
