Héma-Québec: Hats off to donors and volunteers Héma-Québec: One year already!

Montréal, Québec, September 28, 1999 - Québec's blood supplier, HÉMA-QUÉBEC, celebrates its first year of operation today. The organization's first months of operation have been a great success, and can be summed up in just a few words: thanks to the response of Quebeckers and the outstanding work of blood clinic volunteers, HÉMA-QUÉBEC has been able to meet hospitals' need for blood and blood products throughout the year.

On the occasion of its first anniversary, HÉMA-QUÉBEC wishes to highlight the contribution of all its partners that work hard behind the scenes. More than 25,000 volunteers and 200,000 donors have helped make HÉMA-QUÉBEC's first year of operations a resounding success. Today, like every day, they will be working hard to maintain the blood reserve and thus help to save the lives of numerous patients.

To all our volunteers who have generously given their time: many thanks from the management and staff of HÉMA-QUÉBEC! Without their contribution, Québec's blood supplier would not be able to hold 2,000 blood clinics and provide the province's 117 hospitals with close to half a million units of blood and blood products needed to help patients recover their health.

Despite this positive report, there will be no parades, celebrations or other events to mark the completion of this first year of operations. On the contrary, the more than 900 people who work for HÉMA-QUÉBEC will keep on doing what they do best - collecting blood to maintain the province's blood supply. Once again, they will be hard at work throughout the province. Blood clinics will be held in Montréal, Ville Lemoyne, l'Assomption, Trois-Pistoles and Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce.

This first year of activities has shown that HÉMA-QUÉBEC is an efficient and responsible organization.
