The Héma-Québec team will participate in Festival de la santé sporting activities

Montréal, September 12, 2003 - Héma-Québec employees and volunteers as well as blood donors and transfusion recipients will participate in the various sporting activities being organized as part of the Festival de la Santé Oasis and the Montreal International Marathon. Héma-Québec is a partner in the 2003 edition of the Festival that will be held this Sunday, September 14.

" Héma-Québec subscribes to the idea that physical activity has a positive effect on health. The Festival and the Marathon constitute a unique showcase that will let us illustrate what the gift of blood means in a completely new and different way," declared Dr. Francine Décary, Executive Director of Héma-Québec.

All told, nearly 80 people will make up the Héma-Québec team. Emulating the Festival's theme of health and participation, the Héma-Québec team will represent the entire transfusion route from the donor to the volunteer to the employee to the transfusion recipient. Together, these four stakeholder groups form a winning team in the blood donation process.

Héma-Québec depends on more than 1,300 employees and 25,000 volunteers to organize nearly 3,000 blood donor clinics that attract more than 300,000 donors each year. We should remember that each gift of blood we make can save up to four lives.

Give blood. Give life.

Created in September 1998, Héma-Québec's mission is to efficiently provide adequate quantities of safe, top-quality blood components and substitutes to meet the needs of all Quebeckers; provide and develop expertise, services, along with specialized and innovative products in the fields of transfusion medicine and human tissue transplantation.
