“It’s in your blood”, a new Globule in Quebec City

Quebec City, November 12, 2003 – The first Globule Blood Donor Centre in Quebec City has recently opened in the heart of the Place Laurier shopping centre. With the theme “It’s in your blood”, Héma-Québec permanently welcomes donors from the Quebec City area in a pleasant, warm and friendly atmosphere.

This new 465 square-metre concept reflecting Héma-Québec’s desire to offer better adapted services is specially designed to make giving blood easier. With easy access, Globule is open seven days a week in order to adapt to donor availability. It is possible to donate blood, plasma or blood platelets. The Quebec City Globule Blood Donor Centre is located in the Place Laurier shopping mall at 2700 boulevard Laurier, Sainte-Foy borough (entrance on Hochelaga Boulevard, door 9).

Staff and volunteers of Globule Place Laurier are pleased to welcome donors seven days a week. Here is their schedule.

There are two other Globule centres that have been open to donors since the winter of 2001. One is located in Saint-Laurent in the Héma-Québec office at 4045 Côte-Vertu Boulevard, and the other in the Place Versailles shopping mall in Montreal. As it is much appreciated by the public and by Héma-Québec staff, the Globule concept is experiencing a growing success.

Since its foundation in September 1998, Héma-Québec has welcomed 1,400,000 donors in 9,000 blood drives organized in cooperation with community partners throughout Quebec. In the last year, Héma-Québec delivered more than 400,000 blood products to hospitals for patient needs. It is important to remember that one blood donation can contribute to save up to four lives.

The organization has 1,300 employees in two offices, one in Montreal and the other in Quebec City. In September 2002, the organization inaugurated its new offices located in Saint-Laurent and in the spring of 2004, Héma-Québec will be moving its Quebec City offices into a new building on the Université Laval campus. Héma-Québec relies on the very active participation of 25,000 volunteers who work every day at blood collection sites and blood donor centres.

Héma-Québec's mission is to efficiently provide adequate quantities of safe, optimal blood components, substitutes and human tissues to meet the needs of all Quebeckers; provide and develop expertise and services, along with specialized and innovative products in the fields of transfusion medicine and human tissue transplantation.
