Héma-Québec joins the Canadian Armed Forces for a blood donation operation

Montréal, November 8, 2004 - Héma-Québec is joining the Canadian Armed Forces in a blood donation campaign across the country from November 11, 2004 to January 13, 2005. This campaign is being held for the third year and is organized in collaboration with the Canadian Blood Services and the Canadian Armed Forces.

For this operation, Héma-Québec invites members of the Canadian Armed Forces who are based in Quebec and their families and friends to give blood at one of the GLOBULE Blood Donor Centres or at the blood drives taking place during this time. Also, Héma-Québec and its community partners will organize blood drives around military bases located in Quebec. Point out that Captain Raymonde Gaumont, member of the Canadian Armed Forces, is the Quebec’s most prolific female donor of blood plasma with 721 donations to date.

Héma-Québec asks donors who have a connection with the Canadian Armed Forces to identify themselves to reception staff so that their donations be counted for participation in this trans-Canada event. Last year, 250 donors were welcomed; the objective has been set at 275 donors this year.

" The public started to give blood to help the wounded soldiers during the Second World War. This year again, the Canadian Armed Forces and their families are giving a strong hand to blood recipients by helping Héma-Québec to ensure the blood supply. We appreciate their efforts and are pleased to be associated with this generous operation," stated Dr. Francine Décary, President and Chief Executive Officer of Héma-Québec. Call 1-800-847-2525 or visit the Web site of Héma-Québec for blood drive time and location.

Héma-Québec's mission is to efficiently provide adequate quantities of safe, optimal blood components, substitutes and human tissues to meet the needs of all Quebeckers; provide and develop expertise and services, along with specialized and innovative products in the fields of transfusion medicine and human tissue transplantation.
