Héma-Québec joins the Canadian Forces for a blood donation operation
Montréal, October 31, 2005 – Héma-Québec is joining the Canadian Forces in a blood donation campaign across the country from November 1st, 2005 to January 13, 2006. Organized in collaboration with the Canadian Blood Services and the Canadian Armed Forces, this campaign is being held for the fourth year.
For this operation, Héma-Québec invites members of the Canadian Forces who are based in Québec and their families and friends to give blood. Anyone in good health aged 18 years and older who meets Héma-Québec’s eligibility criteria can make a donation of life at one of the GLOBULE Blood Donor Centres, at Place Versailles and at 4045 Côte-Vertu Boulevard in Montréal, and at Place Laurier in Québec, or at the blood drives taking place during this time. Also, Héma-Québec and its community partners will organize blood drives around military bases located in Québec.
It should be mentioned that Captain Raymonde Gaumont, member of the Canadian Forces, is Québec’s most prolific female donor of blood plasma with more than 740 donations to date.
Héma-Québec asks donors who have a connection with the Canadian Forces to identify themselves to reception staff so that their donations be counted for participation in this trans-Canada event. Last year, more than 250 donors were welcomed.
The public started to give blood on a volunteer basis to help the wounded soldiers during the Second World War. This year again, the Canadian Forces and their families are giving a strong hand to blood recipients by helping Héma-Québec to maintain the collective blood supply.
