Héma-Québec announces changes to its board of directors

Montréal, January 10 2006 –Héma-Québec’s Board of Directors appointed Cheryl Campbell Steer, President of Campbell Steer & Associés, to the position of Chairperson at its December 14 meeting. Ms. Campbell Steer has represented the business community on the Board of Directors since she was appointed to the Board in 1999, and has held a number of functions, notably as chair of Héma-Québec’s Audit Committee.

A chartered accountant and certified administrator by training, Ms. Campbell Steer runs her own management consulting firm. She worked for several years at Ernst & Young, where she was a financial consulting partner. Ms. Campbell Steer has demonstrated her commitment to social causes through her presence on the commission on the Political and Constitutional Future of Québec (Bélanger-Campeau Commission) and her work as the former Vice-President of the Chambre de commerce du Montréal métropolitain/Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and the Montreal General Hospital Foundation.

Moreover, Dr. Lucie Poitras, General Assistant Director of University and Medical Affairs at the CHU Sainte-Justine, has been appointed Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors is made up of the following members: Cheryl Campbell Steer; Hélène Darby, President, Association of Blood Donation Volunteers and donors’ representative; Dr. Francine Décary, Chief Executive Officer of Héma-Québec; Dr. Lucie Poitras and Christian Gendron, recipients’ representative.

Jean-Pierre Allaire, FCA, KPMG Partner, is the new chairperson of the Audit Committee. The other members of the committee are Carole Deschambault, Christian Gendron and Dr. Serge Montplaisir. Jean-Guy Lorrain has left his position as observer of the Hemovigilance Committee on the Board of Directors. This position is thus vacant.

By the very nature of its composition, Héma-Québec’s Board of Directors ensures the organization’s transparency and is meant to closely reflect the population at large, from the donor to the recipient. The Board structure is representative of all stakeholders in the transfusion chain: recipients, donors, volunteers, transfusion doctors, public health institutions, hospitals, academia and the business community.
