Héma-Québec’s Montréal facility and one of its Blood Donor Centres pass inspection

Montréal, February 25, 2009 –Héma-Québec’s Montréal facility and Place Versailles GLOBULE Blood Donor Centre have successfully passed inspection. Health Canada has therefore renewed the Establishment Licence of each facility. This annual audit process ran from October 27 to November 7, 2008.

Four observations were issued for Montréal’s facility; none was made for Place Versailles GLOBULE Centre. Corrective measures have been or are about to be taken.

“First and foremost, this performance demonstrates that blood product safety is a constant priority at Héma-Québec. It is a testimony of our staff's excellence and commitment to provide enough safe, optimal quality blood components and substitutes to meet the needs of Québec’s population," said Dr. Francine Décary, Héma-Québec’s President and CEO.

These audits are designed to ensure compliance with safety measures and with the requirements stipulated in its operating licence. Health Canada representatives inspect Héma-Québec’s Montréal and Québec facilities every year, and closely examine the three GLOBULE Blood Donor Centres every two years. Note that the Québec’s facility inspection ran from January 19 to 23, 2009.
