The need for blood doesn't stop during summer vacation

Montréal, July 13, 2009 – Héma-Québec’s summer campaign, This summer, go short-sleeved!, was launched on June 15, and is ongoing until September 6. Héma-Québec would like to remind you that it is essential to maintain the Québec blood reserve at a sufficient level.

Since a single blood donation can save up to four lives, Héma-Québec encourages all healthy individuals at least 18 years of age to include blood donation in their summer activities. Rain or shine, 1,000 donations are required every day to meet Québec hospitals demand.

To meet this daily challenge, Héma-Québec and its partners will be visiting Québec’s regions as well as making appearances at several shopping centres and campgrounds. Donors can call 1-800 343-7264 or consult the Blood Drives section of Héma-Québec’s website to find out where blood drives are being held.

You should eat and be well hydrated before giving blood just as you would before spending time in the sun. All blood donors must be able to provide the medications name that they are taking, if applicable. Call 1-800-847-2525 or consult the Donor Qualification heading of the Blood Donation section to see if you are eligible to give blood.
