Héma-Québec announces the departure of Jean De Serres as the President and Chief Executive Officer

Montréal, September 30, 2014 – Héma-Québec announces Dr. Jean De Serres has left as of September 29 as the President and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. De Serres had held that position since April 1, 2011.

Dr. De Serres is leaving the organization after giving the supplier of human biological products new momentum. Héma-Québec’s mandate was broadened with the creation of the first mother’s milk bank in Québec in April 2014. He also oversaw the development and deployment of a major plasma supply strategy, with the creation of the PLASMAVIE banner in November 2013, enabling Héma-Québec to increase its rate of plasma sufficiency and, as result, reduce its foreign supply for this product. The foundations were erected to position Héma-Québec as a manufacturer of cell and tissue products. Dr. De Serres also left his mark on the organizational culture, promoting greater efficiency and renewed human resource management.

Me Smaranda Ghibu, Vice-President of Corporate Affairs will serve as the interim President; Marco Décelles, Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer will serve as the CEO. The Board will act quickly to recruit a successor for Dr. De Serres.

Héma-Québec will continue its activities as usual, in order to provide safe blood products, human tissues, cord blood and mother's milk of optimal quality and in sufficient quantities to hospitals.
