Statement by Héma-Québec regarding the shooting that took place January 29 at the Centre islamique de Québec

Montréal, January 30, 2017–Héma-Québec was shocked to learn that one of its employees, Mr. Alexandre Bissonnette, was arrested as a suspect in the tragic events that took place at the Centre culturel islamique de Québec on January 29, 2017.

Héma-Québec would first like to express its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims of this tragedy. As an organization whose primary mission is dedicated to the gift of life, these events have sent a shock wave through the organization.

Héma-Québec will not provide any further comment regarding Mr. Bissonnette so as not to hinder the police investigation. Héma-Québec asks that the media not question its employees and allow them to focus on their work.
