Families and loved ones: what should you expect?

Families and loved ones: what should you expect?

Nothing can make up for the loss of a loved one. Yet families frequently indicate that donating tissues gives meaning to the death of their loved one, creating a legacy of life. Donating human tissues is a very positive action, even though it comes out of a tragedy.

Can someone donate tissue regardless of the circumstances of their death?
Each donor undergoes a rigorous evaluation and, depending on the results, the donation may take place.

How long before the donor’s body can be retrieved by their loved ones?
After obtaining consent for the tissue donation, Héma-Québec generally has a maximum of 24 hours in which to recover the tissue and return the body.

Can the donor be viewed?
The procedure for recovering tissues does not change the donor’s appearance and viewing at the funeral home is possible.
