Montréal, April 19, 2021–National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week is April 18 to 25, and Héma-Québec is taking the opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of indicating your consent to be a donor by signing your health insurance card or joining one of the official registries and, especially, letting your loved ones know your wishes.

Montréal, January 28, 2021 Héma-Québec is launching a campaign to promote the importance of blood donation in the treatment of sickle cell anemia, an inherited blood disorder that is especially prevalent in the Black population.
Blood Donor Seroprevalence Study: 2.23% of Quebec Adults Contracted COVID-19
Montreal, August 5, 2020—A blood donor seroprevalence study, conducted by Héma-Québec in collaboration with the Institut national de santé publique (INSPQ), reveals that 2.23% of blood donors were infected with the COVID-19 virus.
Health Canada: Montreal facility and GLOBULE Blood Donor Center in Brossard inspections
Montreal, June 12, 2020–From September 17 to 27, 2019, Health Canada conducted its annual inspection of the Montreal facility as well as the GLOBULE Blood Donor Centre in Brossard–Quartier DIX30, following which their establishment licences were renewed.
100 more blood donations are needed each day: Héma-Québec is asking blood donors to book appointments in large numbers in June
Montréal, June 2, 2020—Héma-Québec is launching an appeal to blood donors to schedule an appointment to give blood in June to restore the reserve to its optimal level in preparation for the summer season. As activities gradually resume in Québec and the demand for blood products in the province’s hospitals increases, 100 more blood donations will be needed each day, over and above the 1,000 donations normally required.
Fighting COVID-19: Quebec scientific institutions join forces to develop an extraordinary program of passive plasma immunization
Montreal, April 9, 2020 – Is it possible that the blood of those who have recovered from COVID-19 can help cure those who are now sick? The extraordinary situation we are currently living through demands extraordinary solutions. Faced with the threat posed by COVID-19, Quebec researchers are contributing their expertise to national and international efforts in seeking a cure for the disease. This major project is bringing together scientists from CHU Sainte-Justine (CHUSJ), the Université de Montréal Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM), the Jewish General Hospital, Héma-Québec and a number of other Quebec hospitals.

February 5, 2020 – The 2020 edition of Black History Month is an opportunity for Héma-Québec to underscore the vital support of blood donors from Black communities. These communities are especially affected by sickle cell anemia, a hereditary blood disease whose treatment can require multiple transfusions at frequent intervals.
