Nearly 40,000 Quebeckers gave blood this summer!

Saint-Laurent, August 5, 2002 - HÉMA-QUÉBEC is pleased to announce that, eight weeks into its summer campaign, 39,736 people have given blood so far at the 245 blood clinics held throughout Québec.

91% of initial target met
According to Jean Furois, summer campaign spokesperson, who himself has received 27 blood transfusions following a bicycle accident, the results are encouraging: "The public and media throughout Québec have been extremely supportive, but we need to keep up our efforts as the campaign will continue until September 10."

"It is vital to maintain the blood reserve during the summer period. The success we have achieved thus far is the result of our donors' generosity, 3,418 of whom are new donors, the commitment of several recipients and the volunteer work of hundreds of people who organize the blood clinics. All these people understand that to give blood is to give life," says Dr. Francine Décary, Executive Director of HÉMA-QUÉBEC.

HÉMA-QUÉBEC invites Quebeckers to help save a life by including blood donation on their list of summer activities.

HÉMA-QUÉBEC's mission is to provide Quebeckers with sufficient quantities of safe, top-quality blood components, derivatives and blood substitutes to meet the needs of hospitals; provide and develop expertise and services, along with specialized, novel product, in fields of transfusion medecine and tissue transplantation.
