National Organ and Tissue Donor Week - Give a legacy of life!

Québec City, April 24, 2017  - Héma-Québec will mark the 20th annual National Organ and Tissue Donor Week from April 24 to 30 and continue its efforts to raise awareness among prospective donors about registering their consent and informing their family of their decision. It is important to point out that, although a majority of Quebecers confirm they are in favour of organ and tissue donation, fewer than half have actually formalized their consent.

A joint online awareness campaign by Héma-Québec, Transplant Québec and the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec is being unveiled today. Over the course of four weeks, a series of video vignettes will:

  • feature compelling testimonials from people whose lives have been changed by organ and tissue donation;
  • encourage people to go to www.signezdon.gouv.qc.ca to learn about the various ways they can consent to be a donor.

Human tissue donation: A legacy of life

Every year, Héma-Québec distributes nearly 5,000 human tissues to hospitals across Québec. Without the generosity of those who consent to organ and tissue donation and families who respect their wishes to honour their legacy of life, it would be impossible to keep pace with the needs of the province’s sick and injured patients. Every selfless gift of this nature can save eight lives and improve 20 others.

For more information on donor consent, go to www.signezdon.gouv.qc.ca. To read more about tissue donation, visit the Human Tissues section of the Héma-Québec Web site at www.hema-quebec.qc.ca.
