Who can donate human tissue?

Human tissues can be donated up to the age of 85. Nearly 50% of deceased persons qualify as human tissue donors.

In all cases, a medical examination is performed to validate the eligibility of potential donors.Depending on their age, the following human tissues may be collected:

  • Heart valves: birth to age 60
  • Cutaneous tissues and musculoskeletal tissues: ages 15 to 70
  • Eye tissues: ages 2 to 86
