From donation to distribution
Héma-Québec supplies the bottles; mothers collect their milk at home and freeze it.
PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF POINT
Depending on the region, Héma-Québec collects the bottles of milk at the mother's home or the mother brings her milk to the drop-off point.
Biochemical tests are conducted on the milk received.
Héma-Québec combines donations from several donors into one batch.
The milk is pasteurized to remove viruses and bacteria.
Héma-Québec tests the milk to make sure it is safe for recipients; if the results are satisfactory, the milk is stored in the freezer.
The milk is distributed to hospitals for the care of very premature infants.
