National Blood Donor Week – Rain or shine, the need for blood never goes away

Montréal, June 12, 2017 – Héma-Québec is using National Blood Donor Week, which continues until June 19, to remind the population that Québec’s blood reserve belongs to everyone and that, rain or shine, the need for blood never takes a holiday.

The organization must collect 1,000 blood donations a day to maintain the reserve at an optimal level, a goal that is achieved thanks to the unwavering commitment of nearly 165,000 blood donors and thousands of volunteers. The support of these generous individuals transforms the lives of the patients who receive some 300,000 blood products delivered annually to Québec hospitals. As part of National Blood Donor Week, Héma-Québec wishes to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of the many people who are committed to the cause of blood donation: thank you for helping us save lives!

Summer Campaign

National Blood Donor Week marks the launch of Héma-Québec’s summer campaign, which this year features the participation of six of Québec’s best loved personalities. Throughout the summer, actor Jeff Boudreault, athletes Charles Hamelin and Marianne St-Gelais, and authors-composers-and-performers Martha Wainwright, Karim Ouellet and Vincent Vallières will endorse the cause of blood donation and encourage the public to go solo, as a duo or a trio.

The campaign will roll out in every corner of Québec, on posters, in newspapers, on radio, on the Web and on social media. Residents of Trois-Rivières, Saguenay, Sherbrooke and Gatineau, communities that are home to PLASMAVIE Plasma Donor Lounges, will get the chance to see some of the ambassadors in person donning a yellow jersey, specially designed to promote plasma donation.
