First anniversary of the Héma-Québec Donor Centre in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville

Montréal, November 10, 2023 – The first anniversary of the Héma-Québec Donor Centre in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville was celebrated yesterday. The event – held in the presence of Ludovic Grisé Farand, Mayor of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville – had a festive atmosphere and brought together members of the executive committee and board of directors, members of a number of branches of Héma-Québec, staff and volunteers from the Centre, as well as donors and partners.

“This Donor Centre is a kind of marriage between our Globules and our Plasmavie – and it must be admitted that this marriage is turning out to be a happy one! In addition to the milestones of 5,000 blood donations and 5,000 plasma donations in one year, it’s also worth pointing out that we recruited about 100 new plasma donors and converted nearly 1,000 donors to plasma donating. Well done everyone!”, said Héma-Québec President and Chief Executive Officer Nathalie Fagnan in her speech.

The guests heard the testimonial of Racim Bedjaoui, ambassador of the ABDV’s youth cell and a donor at the centre, as well as the touching story of family members who mobilized to help 13-year-old Victor Landry in his fight against leukemia. In her speech, his mother Karine said: “We are proud of Victor’s journey, his story, his courage, and his resilience. We’re proud, and we know how fortunate we are to see him, a young teen who works hard in both his sports and his education. A young teen who enjoys life. Thank you for stepping up, and thank you for your contribution.”

The Saint-Bruno Donor Centre began its activities in the context of great potential for development in the field of biological products of human origin. The donations made there help to not only keep the collective blood supply at an optimal level, but also support Héma-Québec’s ambitious goals in terms of plasma self-sufficiency, a component of blood for which the demand is constantly increasing.
