Named a Good Samaritan by the Canadian Organ Donors Association: Héma-Québec congratulates Gaston Martin

Montréal, October 25, 2016–Héma-Québec congratulates one of its pre-eminent volunteers for an honour highlighting his long-term work for the cause of human organ and tissue donation. Gaston Martin, a member of Héma-Québec’s Recipient Representatives Advisory Committee and a dynamic organizer of blood drives, was named a Good Samaritan by the Canadian Organ Donors Association (CODA) during a ceremony held on October 21, in Sherbrooke.

“Mr. Martin’s contribution to the cause of human organ and tissue donations is remarkable. His contribution as a member of Héma-Québec’s Recipient Representatives Advisory Committee and a blood drive organizer in the Lanaudière region has made him an ambassador for the gift of life,” said Serge Maltais, President and CEO of Héma-Québec.

As part of the “Honouring Donors” ceremony, the CODA celebrated this exceptional citizen who, after receiving a heart transplant and numerous blood transfusions, has contributed to transmit the heritage of health through his actions and his commitment to the cause.

Every year, thousands of people generously donate their time to maintain the collective blood supply. In addition to the individuals who voluntarily donate blood, Héma-Québec relies on the generous contribution of people who, like Gaston Martin, support its mission.
